The idea for this album came through the many discussions Lee had with fellow musicians over the years about the importance of keeping a true connection to the music by embracing the past, keeping it relevant, and solidifying its future.

Lee set out to create an album that pays respect to some of jazz's most important trumpet players by re-arranging there songs with a fresh spin. He likes to call this "classics reimagined." To offset these brilliant classics, he included some of his own original compositions.

All the compositions and arrangements were written as a an invitation to the jazz world to embrace and adapt new standards for the purpose of being inclusive, accessible, and a connector for the jazz community.
Lee truly believes that one musician's original can become another's standard.

Through this musical experience, Lee wants to invite you into his space without feeling overwhelmed by the unfamiliar. Lee states, "Familiarity is how we build and sustain communities and relationships. If we plunge deep enough and long enough, we may even find our 'common thread'."
